Don’t look back in fondness I heard you say
My yoga teacher once turned around to me, laughing, and said, "My word, I’ll look back at this time with great fondness." We'd just finished a team yoga practice—a beautiful chaos of death-by-ab-work, upside-down adventures, fits of laughter, and, yes, plenty of coffee!
His remark caught me by surprise because I was fully immersed in the moment. Living fully in the present, as we're often reminded, is itself a kind of spiritual practice. While I was absorbed in the now, my teacher embraced past, present, and future as a unified moment of joyful gratitude.
It hadn't occurred to me, in simple human terms, that someday this little gathering might naturally end; that this delightful way of practising yoga, built around shared kindness, laughter, and care, wasn't permanent.
"This too shall pass," we're told, usually to reassure ourselves through life's tougher moments. Yet it applies just as meaningfully to the good times. Far from despair, recognising this impermanence is a gentle reminder to cherish our connections even more deeply.
Think about your own circles—your friends, groups, and communities. Do you cherish them fully, or, like me, sometimes take them for granted, assuming they'll always be there to laugh, argue, and reconnect with?
Poles & Crocs is precisely such a circle. We’ve deliberately chosen a slow-growth, self-sustaining path. We're not chasing clicks or endorsements; we're here for authentic connection, walking step by step together.
Yet, perhaps we can embrace a more vivid appreciation for the precious, fleeting nature of what we've built. Not because it will vanish soon, but because recognising this helps us engage fully and joyfully now.
So let's gently consider together:
- How can we share even more of ourselves today, creating bonds that last beyond any momentary gathering?
- Who within this group strengthens your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being, and how might you deepen those connections right now?
- Is there something you've left unsaid that would enrich the bonds we've formed?
Let's not wait to look back with fondness—let’s live in appreciation right here, right now.
